Beer Pong does not have a refereeing body; there are no standard rules for the game. The objective of the game is the same but there are variations in them. Since beer pong is played primarily by college students, the rules vary from college to college.
To play beer pong you will need a table, a ping pong ball (it is always good to have a few on hand), glasses, the players (two teams) and the beer.
Teams can consist of two players, which is the traditional number, but more players can be added. The glasses are stacked in a triangular shape like billiard balls before a break. The lowest layers have 4 glasses, the next three, and so on. The glasses are half full of beer and the teams face each other on opposite sides of the table.
The object of the game is to get the other team to drink all the glasses of beer. The team that manages to do that wins. Players from one team try to hit the ping pong balls into the cups on the opposite side of the table. If the ball lands in the glass, the players of the opposing team must drink that glass of beer.
These are the basic rules of Beer Pong:
1. The rules are quite simple. The two teams stand on opposite sides of the table with their glasses arranged on the table. The first team to throw is decided by tossing a coin or rock-paper-scissors. The team that makes the correct decision decides whether to throw first or not.
2. The ping pong ball can be thrown directly into the cup or bounced. If the ball falls directly into the glass, a person from the other team must drink that glass of beer. If the ball lands in a glass on the rebound, the opposing team must drink the glass the ball landed in and another glass of beer. The team drinking the beer can decide which beer glasses to drink out of and maximize their advantage.
3. It may seem like the game will end faster if the ball bounces and lands in a cup, causing the other team to drink two cups, but there’s a catch! Once the ball bounces, it can be put away. The other team can hit the ball, but there is a chance that you could hit the cups. Hitting the cups is a sign of drunkenness or dishonor. In such a case, the player gets another chance.
These are the basic rules of beer pong. There are many more rules that can be added to make the game interesting.
