So, do you want to know what to do if you don’t have willpower?
I understand how you feel. I find it hard to stay motivated if I run into one or two roadblocks when I’m trying to achieve a goal. So, I feel where you come from. The point is, I learned to increase my ability to overcome those obstacles… and guess what, you can too!
If you think about it for a second, without the strength to get through those tough times, we would never accomplish anything. Look at it this way… unless you were a super genius, you probably had a really hard time learning to tie your shoes as a kid, just like the rest of us. Good?
“Let’s see, I’m supposed to wrap this around this part, and then loop this around this. Then make bunny ears out of this… and phew!”
But, you got over it, right?
I now know that learning to tie your shoes doesn’t seem to equate to some of the so-called adult problems like quitting smoking and losing weight. But, if you think about it, there is a common thread between them. A common thread that determines whether we get through the tough times to achieve our goals or give up and go back to doing what we’ve always done. It is what pushed you to continue learning to tie your shoe. And it is the same thing that will make you overcome any other obstacle you encounter.
What is the common factor?
it is commitment.
Without commitment, you will find it difficult to overcome a lack of willpower and achieve anything. Commitment helps us remember why we set a goal in the first place. It is like a virtual contract between us and our goal.
In my opinion, when we do not have the will to comply, it is because we do not have a strong enough reason to do something, or because we have forgotten the commitment we have made to ourselves. Reread that last paragraph. It’s important to understand that if you want to build your strength to persevere.
Break your goals into small chunks. Commit to moving toward the results you want, despite the obstacles that may get in the way. Then remember that commitment when you feel like you don’t have willpower.
