Aptly described as the land of Roar, Trumpet and Song, Jim Corbett National Park represents a setting of remarkable beauty.
Shake hands with nature as you go on a journey into nature. The heavenly abode for adventure seekers and wildlife enthusiasts, Corbett National Park, located in the Shivalik foothills of the Himalayas in Uttaranchal along the bank of the Ramganga River, is the first national park of the India.
Corbett is named after hunter-turned-naturalist/conservationist, Jim Corbett. While Corbett National Park is known for its varied wildlife, it is most famous for the launch of Project Tiger.
Here more than 50 mammals, 600 birds and 25 species of reptiles have been sighted, the main ones being the tiger, the leopard, the elephant, the chital, the sambar, the nilgai, the gavial, the king cobra, the muntjac, the wild boar , the hedgehog, the common musk shrew, the flying fox, Indian pangolin, the rare fish that eats long-nosed crocodiles and almost 600 species of birds.
While you can take the 4W Jeeps through the park, you can choose to take this exciting sojourn the same way the royals of yesteryear did, centuries ago – the “Elephant Safari”. Unperturbed by the mechanical roar of a car or jeep, open to the skies, accompanied only by the rhythmic scraping of elephants’ feet and the creaking of wooden howdah. The occasional rumble of wild elephants at each other in close proximity can have you clinging tight to the howdah’s wooden pole. The journey can be a mix of moments of sheer terror interspersed with long periods of utter peace. The Elephant Safari takes you through mysterious thick forests, deep valleys and rugged trails that offer a lingering thrill to the adventure seeker. This is reinforced by the cultural enigma of the land.
Open 365 days a year, you can choose between a 1/2 day or a full day safari. It all depends on how avid wildlife lover you are.
