A room without furniture is hardly a room. Without a chair to sit there can be no relaxation and without a table to eat there can be no meals. Imagine if your living room didn’t have a sofa or your bedroom didn’t have a bed. Most of the rooms in your house are defined by the furniture that we usually place inside them with one exception: the kitchen. Appliances often guess our kitchens because that’s what we usually use in that room. We cook in the kitchen and clean in the kitchen, so we often forget about the essential furniture that we use there.
Let’s take a brief moment to remember kitchen cabinets and how we can use them to enrich our lives and the lives of everyone in the house. Here are some of the smart ways you can use your kitchen cabinets to increase the likelihood that you’ll use them and increase the joy you get from the overall cooking experience.
Add Counter Space:
One of the most common complaints about the average kitchen is a lack of counter space. It can be difficult to build a kitchen with enough counter space because we have so many appliances now. Once you start putting blenders, toasters, microwaves, and other similar items on top of the counter, you lose that space for when you really need it. If you’re making a complicated recipe with a lot of ingredients and a lot of different tools, you need to have a lot of counter space or it will quickly become problematic.
Use kitchen cabinets like the round kitchen table or island to add counter space when you need it. You can use the furniture in its normal configuration or move it to a spot that spans the length of your counter for easy access.
Create a Breakfast Nook:
If you already have a lot of counter space, you may not have a good place to eat the food you’ve prepared. Not everyone wants to eat in front of the TV or in the formal dining room, so it can be nice to have a small, comfortable place to eat inside the kitchen. Corner breakfast nooks in your kitchen are just what you need.
Makeshift home office:
Not everyone can afford an extra bedroom to use as an office space, so in a pinch you can always use your kitchen cabinets. Your children can do homework at the table while you prepare dinner (or after you finish dinner) and everyone can help. You can also sit down and balance your checkbook if you want to. There are so many different ways to make use of the extra surface area.
