The Sanyo PowerBoy is the ideal choice for those who want a lightweight and easy to maneuver canister vacuum. Weighing just 7 pounds, it can tackle most surfaces and cleaning conditions and it really does seem to have it all. And, in general, this is true; however, there are one or two things that might make you think twice about buying it.
Sanyo canister vacuums come in all shapes and sizes, but the PowerBoy canister vacuum is one of the most popular models. This is not really surprising when you consider what you get. Firstly, its lightweight design and large wheels mean it’s easy to move around even in the tightest of places, and thanks to its low-profile design, it doesn’t tip over very easily.
You get 2 built-in tools; a crevice tool and a round brush. Both are close at hand and can be easily used and stored. Another real plus point for this appliance is that you get a reusable cloth bag and paper bags. Having both types of bags is a very nice feature; Other manufacturers also ship canisters with both types of bags, Sanitaire is one such company.
The mouthpiece also has one or two nice features, but it’s also missing one thing that might put some people off. But, first let’s take a look at what you get. There’s an air-powered rotating brush that can be turned on and off at the flick of a switch, meaning you can easily and quickly change brush settings for all floor types. The nozzle also comes with an edge cleaning brush. This feature works extremely well, removing dirt from a carpet to the wall.
However, the nozzle brush has a negative point; it’s only 10″ wide. While this may not be a problem for some, if you have a lot of floor to vacuum, you may find it a bit cramped. Its width, or lack thereof, is a real shame as everything others.on the mouthpiece works very well.
As if to highlight the PowerBoy’s unsuitability for cleaning large floor spaces, the cord is only 18 feet long. This is a compromise you have to make when purchasing a small, lightweight vacuum canister that has an automatic retractable power cord.
This vacuum cleaner does not come with a HEPA filter, however, the vents, located at the rear and the wheels, do a very good job. There is no discernible dirt or dust escaping from the vents.
Despite the two minor criticisms above, the Sanyo PowerBoy canister vacuum is an excellent device. If you’ve read enough vacuum cleaner reviews, you already know it gets a very high rating, and I for one would agree.
