The Cricket World Cup has finally arrived in the Caribbean. At last, international cricket fans can mix pleasure with pleasure: a trip to the Caribbean, the Mecca of vacations, to enjoy one of the biggest events in the world, after the Olympic Games, and in close competition with the football world cup.
The first stop is Jamaica, the home of legends like Courtney Walsh etc. The grand opening ceremony will take place at Greenfield Stadium in Falmouth, on the north-western tip of the island. While you’re there, be sure to visit the highly praised and frequently photographed Dunns River Falls, the setting for countless Hollywood movies, including the first James Bond movie, “Dr. No.”
As an islander, I can tell you that this is one of my favorite places in Jamaica: the adventure of climbing the spectacular falls, the thrill of jumping from the rocks of the river into the natural pools that form steps to the top is a magnet that draws me once and again. This charming vacation spot is a must see.
Other Caribbean countries on the list of venues are
or old,
or Saint Kitts and Nevis
St. Lucia
or Trinidad and Tobago
or pomegranate
Guiana
o Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
Cricket in the Caribbean is not complete without the historic Kensington Oval. A Caribbean vacation is not complete without a stop in Barbados. While in the beautiful Barbados Harrison’s Cave with its beautiful stalactites, bubbling streams, thundering waterfalls, tumbling cascades and deep pools is one of the top must see attractions. Either before or after the finals between England and Australia or any of the other world class teams, any of which could very well steal the coveted cup.
If you are making plans for your 2007 vacation then the cricket world cup is an interesting option. Hop from island to exotic island and enjoy the beauty of each one, as well as one of the biggest events in the world at the same time.
