I am on vacation this week to spend time with my almost 10 year old daughter. Trying to think of things to do with her in my spare time, I signed her up for a 3-hour arts and crafts class at Joann’s. It turned out that she was the only one who signed up, so the class was canceled and I got my deposit back. I told my daughter that it was okay, we would spend the money on whatever arts and crafts she wanted at Joanns.
After walking up and down several of the aisles, we came across several cool crafts, but the one that seemed the most fun was called “Magic Nuudles.” These “Nuudles” resemble packing peanuts found in shipping boxes; however, these are made from cornstarch so they are completely safe for children to use. So we added a couple of bags of noodles to our growing pile of fun, bought the stuff, and headed home to see what we could do.
When we got home, my daughter was eager to start making things. She chose Magic Nuudles as her first project from her goodie bag. She read the instructions again, which said to use a sponge to slightly moisten the part of the core that she wants to adhere to another core and start doing what she wants. I got distracted for a few minutes unpacking the groceries we also got on the way home, so before I knew it, my daughter shoved a long-stemmed flower in my face and said, “Look what I made for you mom! “
I was impressed with how quickly my daughter figured out how to make the flowers and fish you see here. She even figured out how to pinch the ends of the “flower petals” to write them out and make them look more realistic. Very cool! Not only are these cornstarch pieces easy to assemble with just a damp sponge, they’re also easy to cut, pinch, and mold into just about any shape you’d like.
I even tried my hand at this wonderful arts and crafts project and made a little cat and fish similar to the one my daughter made. It was so much fun and relaxing to do! I highly recommend this product for children (and adults!) of all ages. It’s safe, clean, and gets kids’ and adults’ creative juices flowing. Magic Nuudles would also make a great birthday party activity. Each bag of noodles (they come in long pieces too!) is about $6. What a great deal!
LESSON LEARNED: Buy your own crafts and make your own fun!
