CRITERION # 1: Be willing to do it yourself.
Always keep this on the top of your mind – I’m doing it for myself! The moment you begin to believe that you are doing it for someone else (spouse, children, partner, doctors, etc.), your chances of success are put in jeopardy. You are an adult who deserves to live a better life and enjoy it to the fullest. Do this for yourself.
CRITERION # 2: Be willing to change your point of view.
The reason you haven’t stopped chewing is because of the way you think.
When we were born, we were normal eaters or what I call No-Munchers. In those days we ate in order to survive and achieve maximum performance. This was our way of thinking about food. Then we became Munchers and started thinking like Munchers.
People who think like normal eaters eat normally … people who think like Munchers: they chew.
To become an ex-Muncher, you must be willing to give up your current point of view (thinking). Most people try to lose weight with beliefs about what will work for them. Unfortunately, they don’t know what will work for them.
WHAT IS THE TEST? They are still overweight and continue to chew.
People are overweight because of the way they think.
People eat compulsively because of the way they think.
People cannot follow diets because of the way they think
Our way of thinking determines:
What we eat
When we eat
Where we eat
Why we eat
How we eat
How much do we eat
CRITERION # 3: Be willing to stop proving you’re right by not being able to change.
That’s right, be willing to stop proving that you are right by not being able to change. Most people go on a diet and spoil it. They use excuses like:
I do not have any will power.
I am different from everyone else.
My life is different from theirs.
I am too stressed.
I have failed too many times before.
I have a slow metabolism.
I promise you all have the power and ability to succeed as long as you are WILLING TO START SAYING, “I CAN, INSTEAD OF I CAN’T.” It doesn’t matter how long you’ve been overweight, how many diets you’ve followed, or how many times you’ve tried. You can and will succeed. Right now, you still don’t know how.
CRITERION # 4: Be willing to see that your fear of failure is less important than the benefits of living lean.
Are you afraid of failure? Fear is normal. A wise man once said; There are two kinds of people: one who is afraid and successful, and one who is simply afraid.
The point is that everyone is afraid. Those who are successful recognize it and move on. Those who are unsuccessful give up when they encounter fear. During this process, there will be times when you will be afraid of failing. When faced with the fear of failure, you can do one of two things; You can put on the brakes, give up and quit, or you can put the pedal to the metal and hit the gas. See that the benefits of living lean are more important than your FEAR OF FAILURE.
CRITERION # 5: Be willing to tell the truth.
The Bible says that the truth will set you free. While telling the truth is quite difficult, knowing what the truth is is even more difficult. The truth is misleading.
CRITERION # 6: YOU ONLY FAIL WHEN YOU STOP TRYING: Be willing to take responsibility for your thoughts and actions.
The power to change is a function of our WILL to take responsibility for our thoughts and actions. If we blame others, situations, or even our own weaknesses for our actions, there is no hope that we will change our lives.
If you blame others for your failures – work, stress, family, aging, slowing down metabolism, or even your dog – what would you have to do to change? Answer: Surrender them all … STOP LIVING!
When we point the finger at someone or something for actions or experiences in life, we give our power to that person, which leaves us powerless.
Your personal power depends on your willingness to take responsibility for your actions.
Memorize these six criteria and make them part of your life.
