According to Ayurveda, a medical science, heartburn, a condition where there is excess acid secretion within the stomach, is known as Amalapitta. It is known that Agni (digestive fire) is the main protector of the body and ama (toxic) is the true cause of disease. The main reason is the indiscretion in taking food that incorporates its quality, quantity and time, which leads to three types of doshic imbalance (physical energies): one due to the intervention of vata, another due to kapha and the third due to vata. attributed to the participation of both.
It is suggested to follow the guidelines along with Ayurvedic herbal preparations like Indukantam qwath tablet, aptizoom syrup, indukantam ghrit, hinguvachadi tab, dadimashtaka churna, chitrakadi tablet, kalyana gulam, dasmoola haritaki leha:
- Foods rich in oils and fats, which have acid content, should be avoided.
- Smoking, drinking coffee and tea should be avoided.
- Immediately after eating, avoid drinking water.
- Fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and legumes that are good sources of fiber and aid digestion should be eaten in abundance.
- Anise Croomy (Saunf) and coriander seed (500 mg) to take twice a day.
- Lemon water with the same amount of sugar and salt to drink every day.
- Koshna Jal (Lucas Warm) water should be drunk after 1/2 hour.
- The diet will be reduced to 3/4 of the regular diet
- Some kind of exercises to do after a meal.
- One has to stay balanced for psychological reasons such as anger, grief, anxiety, and depression as possible reasons for triggering the onset of heartburn.
Ayurvedic treatment for heartburn
1. Vata Type of acidity
Carminatives such as asafetida and clove are given. Preparations like Pachakshara choorna, Narayana choorna are prescribed.
2. Type of acidity Pitta
Amalaki is initially prescribed to reduce hyperacidity of the stomach. Shatavari tablet is then prescribed. The drug should be continued for two weeks.
3. Kapha acidity type
Treatment begins with fasting to correct the digestive fire. Herbs are given to correct digestive problems. Shankha vati and Jeerakadyarishta treatment is prescribed for three weeks.
