Edgerrin James, a native of Immokalee, Florida, was born on August 1, 1978. Currently serving as quarterback for the NFL’s Arizona Cardinals, James has had plenty of practice when it comes to competition.
After being recruited directly from Immokalee High School in Florida, Edgerrin James enrolled at the University of Miami, where he became one of the most successful runners in the school’s history. Not only was he second in all-time rushing yards at the University of Miami, but Edgerrin James was also the only running back in college history to post two consecutive seasons with more than 1,000 rushing yards. Additionally, he holds the school’s record for the most rushing touchdowns in a single season, which is currently 17, and he also ranks first with more than 100 rushing games.
Edgerrin James of the University of Miami was selected in the 1999 NFL Draft by the Indianapolis Colts. After signing a seven-year deal, said to be worth $ 49 million, the Associated Press named Edgerrin James the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year.
When James’ contract with the Colts expired, he immediately signed a new contract on March 12, 2006 with the Arizona Cardinals. Reportedly worth $ 30 million, the new deal is said to span four years and is the Cardinal’s largest free-agent signing in history.
In addition to his many accomplishments on the field, Edgerrin James is making his mark outside the 50-yard line. He has a daughter and has donated $ 250,000 to the University of Miami, which is the largest ever given to the university by one of its former athletes. In addition, he has established the Edgerrin James Foundation, which is a charity for underprivileged children and families.
As the 2006 NFL season approaches, fans will continue to watch James as he hopes to lead the Cardinals to a victory in the SuperBowl. While it is too early to think about the last game, most athletes strive for the same goal with every step they take on the field. Fans are sure to be delighted with the Cardinal’s newest quarterback and will be eagerly waiting to see what he has to offer.
