Mods, or modifications, are generally known as PC (computer) video games. These mods can be created by players and developers so you can get a variety of styles and applications for games. This can be especially useful for strategy games like Civ 5. Most mods are a partial or full conversion mod for PC games. A partial conversion mod will only change certain aspects and outcomes of the game, while full conversions can create a completely new game.
User-created mods and maps will play a huge role in the official game with Civilization 5. In Civ 5 you can upload and share your maps within the actual game! You can even import your Civ 4 maps and turn them into a usable Civ 5 map. This also includes all items and cities you currently have on that map! Also, the game will actually convert everything for you, so it’s done easily and with little effort. In Civ 5, square play spaces have been replaced with hexagons or hexagons, but your maps will automatically convert to this process as well.
You can also download mods directly from the internet to incorporate them into your city and combat structure. At this time there is not much information about what kind of mods will be available for Civ 5, as Civilization 5 does not launch until September 21, 2010. We can only assume that most of the types and styles of mods that were available for Civ IV will be similar to Civ 5. On forums around the world, players are discussing the mods that should be available for Civ 5 that may or may not appear. Given that many players are upset that the religion system was removed from Civ 5, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see some kind of mod that brings the system back into the game. Firaxis and the developers felt that the religious systems made in-game diplomacy too easy, so they removed it. They’re really interested in making Civ 5 less cluttered this time around compared to previous sets.
When it comes to the Civ series, the mods sometimes overshadow the game itself. Some mods can add much more engaging and fun gameplay for the player. Firaxis is one of the most notable game makers that allow fan-made mods in their released expansion packs. Some real games started out as a mod for another game, but they were so impressive that the developers hooked them up to create a whole new game in themselves. For the most part, all mods are free and can be downloaded from the net, but there are a few select mods in expansion packs that require you to pay a small fee. However, always look around before you buy them because you may find the same or a similar mod for free posted on a forum or website somewhere.
