As an Internet marketer, one of the most difficult decisions you will have to make is what products to market and where to position yourself in the market. Market something that isn’t really wanted, or painfully needed, and you’ve stacked the cards against yourself.
As a 13-year internet marketing veteran, I have largely settled in the search engine optimization and traffic generation fields. Everyone with a website needs both, and everyone is painfully aware of that fact.
This is a good field for you to enter if you really take the time to learn how to get a web page to rank high for buying keywords and how to generate lots of traffic. They’re not really THAT difficult, either, as you’ll soon see.
If you plan to sell your services in this niche, you need to master the basics, and it helps to be able to show potential clients how good you are. Personally, I just show clients how I rank for some of my own website projects. I do it for two reasons:
1) I want to show you that I really don’t need to work as an SEO consultant since I could make a full time living just by marketing my own products. Not coming from a position of need allows me to charge higher prices.
2) I want to show them that I understand the entire sales process and know what it takes to attract customers who BUY.
Here are some examples you might show a typical customer (all examples are the terms without the quotes):
One of my companies sells automated article, video, press release, and podcast submission services. So I show potential customers that for the term “automatic video submission site” I rank #2 out of 1,020,000 on Google, and for the term “automatic video submission software” I rank #1 out of 192,000 on Google.”
I show you that for the term “#1 on Google’s list” I rank numbers 5 and 6 out of 109,000,000 on Google. For “get a number 1 Google listing” I have the number 3 position in Google.
Since many potential clients know that I have worked as a joint venture broker, I show them that for the term “joint venture expert” I have at least 5 of the top 10 positions on Google, out of 2,870,000 returns.
Since I have written a soul food cookbook, I show you that for the term “soul food recipes” I am ranked number 2 out of 2,510,000 results. For the term “soul food cookbook” I have the number 2 position out of 58,900,000 returns.
I show potential clients dozens of similar results, giving them irrefutable proof that I understand SEO. I also show you some of my website traffic statistics to show you that I am targeting BUY keywords.
By now you must be wondering how I achieve this. The answer is simply to generate a lot of relevant content and have a lot of external links pointing to my sites.
Isn’t it very simple?
The content is usually articles, press releases, podcasts (audios) and videos. This content is both on my sites and on other sites. For my cooking related sites, the content is usually recipes, but with web pages optimized to help search engines know what a specific page is about.
Briefly, when optimizing a web page, I make sure that my most important keywords are used in my titles, description meta tags, and in strategic places throughout the page.
In my opinion, the reason my pages rank so high is because other pages (on other websites on the Internet) tell search engines that my pages are about specific terms. I accomplish this by getting tons of hyperlinks from other sites, where the anchor text contains my long-tail keywords.
I get those links by posting my content on those other sites. My articles, videos, press releases and audio are on high page rank sites and there are links on or near this content pointing to my sites.
Those links equate to those other sites pointing to my site and telling search engines that my site is about those keywords. Those “authority site” links are like having highly respected people endorse you!
Just as important, those hyperlinks “recommend” my sites to visitors to those other sites. They tell those visitors to go to my site for more similar content, and those visitors come in droves!
In case you’re wondering how I distribute so much content to so many sites, my answer is automation. Instead of visiting hundreds of sites and manually posting this content, I upload it to software (or more specifically to servers at other sites) and automate the distribution process. Using the software, I can do in 10 minutes what would literally take me days to do manually.
When I tell you what I do and how I do it, it sounds very simple, doesn’t it?
Is!
However, there is another key. In many niches, when you search for certain keywords, you need to post a LOT of content and a LOT of links pointing back to you. That’s why software is so critical. Without automation, you couldn’t achieve 1/10 of that much. It would not be able to generate the necessary mass.
I know, by now you are probably thinking that my traffic generation secrets are not that amazing. Actually, they are not, but they are very effective. That is, they are very effective if you recognize another important warning. That caveat is simply that you have to use this knowledge. You have to generate the content and then distribute it over the Internet.
Now that you know my secret, you must take advantage of it. Don’t you dare think that it won’t do much good “because your competitors will know the secret too.” Here’s another not-so-secret “secret”… most people, even when they know exactly what to do, and even see proof that it works, will do absolutely nothing. That’s the beauty of it all. To get ahead of your competitors, you just need to!
