LOST IN THE DARK
“Why? Why is it so dark?”
“Where I am?”
“Poor girl, they found her in the middle of the road…”
I heard some voices around me, but it was all dark, I couldn’t see anything… “Is anyone there?”
“Please answer me! Hello?”
“What happened to me?”
“I opened my eyes, but I only see darkness…”
“Who I am?”
“I can’t…I don’t remember…I DON’T REMEMBER!!!”
“Please calm down, I’m Doctor. Someone who saw you in the middle of the road brought you here… You were unconscious.”
“Doctor? Why is it dark? Do you know my name and where I live or where I come from?” I asked.
He didn’t speak for a moment… I felt like he was searching for the right words to answer me.
He spoke to me very softly.
“You are here in my Hospital, dear. This is a non-profit hospital. They found you in the middle of the street and brought you here unconscious. Your eyes were swollen. I was the one who operated on your eyes.” , but I did my best to save your eyes… but it was already too late. You must have hit yourself with some kind of sharp object and you must have hurt yourself. I was hoping that when you regained consciousness, you’d be able to tell us what happened to you… But here you are, you don’t remember a thing… I can say for now that you’re experiencing temporary amnesia. Go back to the people who may have known you.
“I cried when I heard what he had just said. I don’t remember anything about myself… I don’t know where I’m going to stay. Would they let me stay here in the hospital until I get my memories back? I suppose not. But what should I do? I don’t want to be a burden to them. But if they offer help, I suppose the wisest decision would be…
“You can stay here until you get your memory back or until we can find someone who knows you. Is that okay?” the doctor said.
– – I don’t want to take advantage or be a burden, but I need your help.
He continued as I felt his hand gently holding my left hand at my side, while I rested my right hand on my chest as I sobbed. I felt cold and I know he felt that he was shaking and worried about my situation. But he was kind enough to assure me of one thing.
“Don’t worry, dear, we’ve already contacted the authority about your case. I’m sure they’ll find you soon…”
I felt my eyes get so heavy… The medicine one of the nurses injected me with is now working. She said that her name is Nancy and that the drug will help me calm down and feel comfortable.
I closed my eyes and silently prayed, “Dear God, I am totally lost in the dark, help me and guide me. I need your protection…”
